Battle of the Sexes
Battle of the Sexes was the second work in the Motherships series. After doing the very work intensive and large (for me) Motherships Invade Morehead, when I swore I would never, ever do a large piece ever again, I decided to do this, even larger, work. This piece was inspired in part by the joke my husband and I share that he tends to incorporate phallic shapes in his work and that I tend to use curvy or womb-like shapes (the motherships are 'wombs' of a sort). Why should men have all the fun casting their phallises around, and so I made some, the rockets. Also, the work is a comment on platonic and sexual relationships. Who wins? The men ultimately, because the women are also shooting themselves down as well. A detail of this work was featured on the cover of Arts Across Kentucky, Fall 2005.
